The Leech Lake Culture Alliance will hold its 6th annual Unity Day Potluck Celebration on Sunday, Sept. 21st at the Onigum Community Center in Walker. The event is from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to join together to observe the Autumn Equinox in a community dinner, and people are encouraged to bring a traditional, potluck-style dish to share, if they are able. “The event is a fun and meaningful way to bring the Akeley, Hackensack, Onigum and Walker communities together,” said Teresa Gunter, Onigum Local Indian Council chairperson and event co-organizer. “People get to know each other a little bit better, plus enjoy some of the traditional food they grew up with.” The Leech Lake Culture Alliance supports causes and promotes events that celebrate both the
cultural differences and the human commonalities among people of the native and non-native
communities in order to build and become bridges with neighbors.
